Another week, another listicle!
This week Stasha used a prompt suggested by me and my sis for Monday Listicles!
However…best laid plans and all that jazz…
Buffy and I were planning to do this awesome Monday Listicle Sing-a-long with our favorite Christmas songs. The kids were going to be involved, we had a script and everything but then somebody (Buffy) forgot we were supposed film, The Bee went to her dads and it’s Friday and I’m all “Oh Snap! I’ve got to get this done!”
So, here is my list of favorite Christmas songs and of course some that can suck it.
Please note, that some of the songs may have to be played on YouTube. I don’t mean to steal anyone’s intellectual property so that extra click is necessary and worth it.
1. Santa Baby.
Remember how I crooned it for y’all?
Also, I didn’t want to be a lame-o and forget my prompt AGAIN!
Ahem
2. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
Well, I really just like the line that goes
And mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
When The Bee went to her old school she had like three weeks* off for ‘Winter Break’. Who thought THAT was a good idea? People have to work, yo!
Seriously I had this awesome CD of holiday music featuring this song that I would play and play and play each year. I left it work and someone decided it would have a better home with them.
Sigh!

3. This Christmas by Donny Hathaway
Cause you know Christmas is on when this sing starts playing!
My sister says this song makes her sad. I say this song is the bomb!
WDAS, a local radio station that used to be the “old people’s station” until I became said old person, was the place I would always hear this song sometime in December. That’s when I knew it was time for shopping, copious amounts of eggnog, and candy canes.
4. White Christmas by The Drifters
Not that I necessarily want one but I love The Drifter version. It’s bluesy, kinda funky and fun.
And this video is dang cute!
5. Carol of the Bells
Effin Guy always says this song makes him think someone is going to get a whoppin’. Perhaps.
I do love this song. It can be serene or a high adrenalined pumped piece of awesome.
6.What Christmas Means to Me Stevie Wonder
Sadly Christmas seems more like a pain in the ass but this song forces me to remember that it IS a great time to get together.
Sometimes.
7. Baby It’s Cold Outside
This is not really a Christmas Song but this song always reminds me of new loves. You know, it’s time to go home but you want to stay a few minutes more for sweet nothings, stolen kisses and cuddles.
Aww!
And because what is a list with Ella?
She sings with Louis Jordan:
8. Christmas song (original) by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The Chipmunks get on my nerves normally but I just Alvin’s sweet plea for a Hula Hoop.
9. Jingle Bell Rock
There’s really no way to mess this song up. My favorite is the Hall and Oates version.
10. and last, but totally not least, Run DMC’s Christmas in Hollis
I remember when this song came out (yes, I’m old). Videos still came on tv via Friday’s Video Rock and this came on.
Yo!
This was the ish!
Songs that I can do without
1. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.
My biological dad was an idiot. In his defense he was a young dad (like 19 when my sis and I were born) so I’ll allow some of his shenanigans but he would say dumb things.FOr this song he would say that it was a true song, that my Mom was actually kissing Santa. You know how kids are and THIS kid was heartbroken
2. The Little Drummer Boy.
See above.
Seriously, my dad would also go on and on about the drummer boy being alone (and some other things I cannot really repeat) and my mom and grandmother would give him Hell. THis colored how I feel about this song to this day (and with that let the daddy issue theories fly).
3. The Twelve Days of Christmas
I HATE this song.
Yes, hate is a strong word but aptly applied in this case.
It’s long, no one knows all of the words, it goes on forever and ever and did I mention how long this song is.
Blech!
4. I’ll be Home for Christmas sung by Sarah MacLaughlin
Bah!
What a depressing version. You almost want to tell Sarah to stay wherever she is!
5. Any song from Charlie Brown Christmas.
Where are their parents? Really? Why are these kids responsible for buying and trimming a tree, putting together a party
I hate the way they treat Charlie Brown and this cartoon just makes me sad.
Oh well, the holidays are almost here.
Enjoy them!

Love #4. And I loved the theme for this listicle so thank you ladies! Also, I am counting on that medley next year 😉
Merry Christmas.
I love all those old Christmas songs. I have been crooning Santa Baby in private when no one is around. I think I belt out a pretty good tune. Merry Christmas to you.
I am so enjoying all the Christmas music right now too. I also like Sleigh Ride! But I do like the song from Peanuts in spite of the lack of parental involvement. 😉
I like some of the ones you listed and dislike some. I hate Santa Baby with a passion lol. I do have to say that I love Run DMC’s Christmas in Hollis, but I haven’t heard it once yet this year.
OH, my gosh, I have been singing that “And my and dad can hardly wait for school to start again!” all week. The kids aren’t even out of school yet, but it’s been the theme song of the week lol.
Ha ha, I always wondered where Charlie Browns parents were too. lol. I have my car station set on Holly channel. I love to get in the spirit with songs.
Thanks for the list. Definitively will be sharing around the Christmas cheers!
I was shopping the other day and Santa Baby started playing over the loud speaker–have to admit-that is a great sng to play when people are shopping!! I love that song!!
Fantastic list there’s something about Christmas songs playing that really makes me start to feel like Christmas is here.
I sent eCards last night with the Christmas carol , God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen as the tune. I forgot how much I loved that song.
Lol, I always wondered where Max and Ruby's parents were too. I guess the creators of some of these cartoons want us to see alternative family situations.
I have very few Christmas songs that I do not like, Christmas season is the only time I really listen to music, the rest of the year seems to be basically crap music lately.
I really like Carol of the Bells- I agree, it can be serene or adrenaline-pumping! This is a great list of Christmas songs.
I am so not a xmas music person…probably cuz I worked in a mall that played it 24/7 as a teen. However, I do have a few select ones I do like 🙂
I love Jingle Bell Rock.
Tell Sarah to stay where she is LOL! Love Carol of the Bells and also dislike the Charlie Brown Christmas.
That is funny!! I wonder about some of the stuff I see as well!
I find most of Sarah MacLaughlin music to be depressing. I do NOT want to hear her singing any holiday music! I love Christmas music, but this is funny! Thanks for the laugh this morning!
Thank you for the Christmas list of songs. You are certainly getting into the Christmas spirit. I’ve also started listening to them in my car on my way to work. 🙂
You've got some great songs on that list!
I like some of the newer Christmas music, but I am fond of some of the oldies too. My daughter has played Justin Bieber’s Christmas songs so much they are beginning to grown on my.
