Effin Guy and I see a lot of movies. When we first started dating we had crazy schedules which included a whole lot of late nights and as we are not exactly “bar types” we would have dinner and catch a movie. Lately when we are considering what we want to do, movies rank low because lately I have been feeling like the great wordsmith Homer Simpson when I think about going to the movies:
AMC Theaters must have heard my grumbles because my movie experience is about to become a whole lot better with AMC Painters Crossing 9. AMC Painters Crossing 9 is the first Dine-in theater in Pennsylvania and one of 13 locations across the country. This dine in theater makes movie watching an experience and a night out destination.
The Bee and I had an opportunity to tour the newly renovated AMC Painters Crossing 9 theater which is located in West Chester, PA and there is something for everyone. If we want to do a mom and daughter’s night out, we can enjoy our movie in the six Fork & Screen theaters. These theaters boast a full dine in menu, discreet service with the push of a button, reserved seating and no one under the age of six is allowed after six. Movie guests over the age of 21 can enjoy Cinema Suites. In addition to the Fork & Screen amenities, the three auditoriums feature plush, power recliners and up to nine feet of row spacing which means you will never have to squeeze in and out of the aisle for bathroom breaks.
The menu items include movie favorites, popcorn, candy and drinks but there is also a full menu featuring gourmet burgers, artisan flat breads, salads and deserts. During our tour we had the opportunity to meet the head chef Phil who allowed us to sample some menu items. Among the items we were able to enjoy were Tacos Chicken Tinga, Asian Chicken Salad, BLT pizza, Jalapeño Chipotle Big Burger, Bistro Chicken Mac and Cheese, and a delicious ice cream sundae with caramelized bacon. All menu items are prepared on the premises and can be adapted for food allergies. A full menu can be found here.
Want a drink with your dinner? Check out the MacGuffins Bar which is inside the theater. Guests can enjoy a cocktail before the show, during the movie or afterwards as one dissects the plot. Make sure to bring your id; the theater has a strict ID policy which they adhere to.
When you go, it is recommended that tickets are bought before the show. If you are an AMC Stubs member (which for the cost of $12 a month offers many great benefits such as free upgrades on popcorn & drinks and a $10 reward for every $100 that you spend) your fee for purchasing tickets online are waived.
The theater is located at 112 Wilmington Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. From Philly we took Route One and arrived at the theater in 45 minutes. It may seem out of the way but adding up the cost of tickets and a meal, and I found this be a great bargain for a night out.
