This week Stasha is asking us to make a list of eats and I choose some memories of holiday eats.
Hizzah!
I know I JUST wrote on my weight loss blog about goals but I still like food and well, the holidays are a time to eat up.
Ten holiday food that I love
1. Egg Nog
Store bought; I’ve never attempted to make my own.
I love it and try not to keep it in the house because I may or may not drink the three half gallons that I buy.
2. Mac and Cheese
My family makes a baked mac and cheese that has caused some fights.
When we were younger my mom would make it with, ahem, “govment” (government) cheese and it was always the cheesiest, gooiest, greasiest thing.
Since my kid has a dairy allergy I don’t make or eat it often but when I can have some…
Fun note: on Thanksgiving I may or may not have tasted my mom’s baking mac and cheese and caused a collapse.
Who am I kidding!
I did!
3. Candy Canes
As a kid my sister and I would suck our candy canes into a dangerous point and pretend to stab each other with them. As an adult candy canes are the perfect snack. The peppermint helps keep your breath minty fresh and its cool to eat candy at work.
4. Cookies!
Cookies are good any day of the year but for holidays cookies are what’s up!
My kid and I decorate cookies and I also have a cookies decorating program at work.
Red and green sugar…gum drops…sprinkles…Mmmmm!
5. Hot chocolate
Again, something good any day of the year (sorta) but there is something about playing in the cold an coming in to a warm house and having a steaming cup of cocoa. I warm up soy milk for The Bee, drizzle in some syrup and we go to town.
6. Sausage Cheeseballs
My sister makes these for her family and brought them over once.
They are good!
I’m too lazy to make my own so I always sneak one or more from her.
7. Whitman’s Sampler
Someone would always get one of these for my grandmother and of course my sister and I would fight over the little milk chocolate guy. As I have gotten older and have more matured tastes I realize that I enjoy most of the box but that little guy always has a place in my heart.
8. Ribs
One year my mom put up the grill and we had ribs for New Year’s Eve.
Nothing like a smoky rib slathered in barbecue sauce!
9. Cake
A friend of my aunt always gifts her with pound cake and that cake is delicious!
It’s moist, chewy and begs for returns to the counter. Bonus with some ice cream and I’m ready for a nap!
10. Mixed nuts
Again, something that can be found during ANY season but as a kid my mom would only buy these around the holidays and we would have nuts as a snack.
