The Penn’s Landing Playhouse is showing Menopause The Musical, a G Four Productions. Menopause The Musical® is a groundbreaking celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived “The Change.” and I had the opportunity to see it.
I laughed!
I snorted!
I was a part of the show! (Spoiler alert…be prepared to be a part of the show. At my play the audience was invited to do a kick line with the cast!)
The show begins when four women meet at a lingerie sale at Bloomingdale’s and their lives are changed, set to classic baby boomer songs. The diverse cast includes The Professional, The Earth Mother, The Iowa Housewife and the Soap Star. Each woman shares their different but familiar stories of going through the change and the women all come together when they realize that this process, while seemingly isolating, is not something they are alone in experiencing. Ideas about looks, aging, sex and physical changes, are all a part of the show and set to parodies of familiar songs, this show is an experience.
Three of the four women starring in the Philadelphia cast are from Philly (yay!) and they bring the energy. The runtime is 90 minutes but the time flew by for me as I danced in my seat, nodded my head at some parts of the show (where is my waist and no, you can’t say nothing bad about my body) and laughed at the jokes.
While it may be a few years (I think, I hope!) before I go through The Change (government name “menopause”) I loved the message that came through Menopause The Musical. This process of aging – changing – is not something to mourn but something to celebrate and enjoy. Sure, it’s a little scary but all women experience this change, though it may differ for each person. However, ALL WOMEN experience this change and this is something that should be spoken about, discussed and shared.

r’s note: I was offered a complimentary ticket to check out the show in exchange for an honest review and after a fun, musical 90 minutes, this scary idea that I have been avoiding is still a little scary but I feel it won’t be so awful and that I won’t be alone.
