I Went to the Gym so I Wore a Short Skirt

Look Better Naked By Mar 12, 2014 21 Comments

Also known as soundtrack for returning to the gym when you are feeling all that and out of breath.

For the first time in quite some time it was warm. No threat of snow, no biting temps, leave your coat in the car type of weather. Surprisingly I am not experiencing the familiar panic of not being ready for the warmer weather which means showing more skin although really, I am totes not ready. I find myself thinking about the fact that there is a little more of me to love ’cause I recently discovered Talenti Gelato is THAT stuff and I am here for it (…Talenti…arrrgr *Homer Simpson drool).  I am not worrying myself over having a little more of Rachee to love. I am embracing the curves and working it.

But Spring is coming.

Spring means warm weather means more Rachee to show.

Suddenly I’m not feeling so confident.

I headed back to the gym today with a goal of just getting there. I’ve had a few false starts but today I was determined to actually get there. No excuses, no real plan, taking that first step.

We went to see the AMAZING Cirque Elioze and instead of my normal feelings of inadequacy watching the performers I felt a sense of awe. I want to be able to control my body and own such strngth. I want to be able to climb and swing from a pole effortlessly.

So songs to power through a workout and prepare for heavy lifting.

Abba – Knowing Me, Knowing You

Yes, I know this is a song about a break up but it came on in the gym today and it was perfect. Instead of me worrying over why I am not three inches taller and [redacted] pounds lighter I thought about what I can do and powered through my workout.

Madonna – Rainbow High – Evita Soundtrack

I feel some type of way about Madonna as Evita but for the sake of this post I’ll let it slide. Madonna, whether you care for the changes or not, has totally gotten better physically as she ages. Madge truly has no cares to give and will let you know it.

Honestly, her arms, her legs, strength!

Big Spender – Sweet Charity Soundtrack

This one may be a stretch but work with me.

What are you willing to give to get what you want? I love sleeping in but I also love knowing that no one will be able to hear me breathing while I am at rest. And it’s not really a sacrifice. I like a stronger, healthier me and know that giving retooling my routine will allow for what I want.

I Can Do That – Chorus Line

I can do that.
I don’t say that in a envious way that frankly I would have uttered in the past. Nope; I am so inspired to be stronger and I am inspired to be able to honor my body by making it different than what it is now.

Disney’s Frozen “Let It Go” Sequence Performed by Idina Menzel

I’m tired of this song too but it’s so appropos for lots of places in my life.
Let go of the worry, the comparing, the feeling bad about just existing.

Now, it’s your turn! Tell me…what are your songs for letting it go, feeling better and (forgive me) doing you?

  1. I need to get back to the gym, too. It always helps to have great music to keep you motivated.

  2. Sarah Bailey says:

Good luck with getting back into the guy more – I need more motivation myself as well I have to admit.

    Great song choices 🙂 x

  3. Natasha Mairs says:

I have just gone back to the gym a few weeks ago, trying to lose a stone. But when I listen to music it has be be something with a beat, and no words. If it has words in it I often find people giving me funny looks and then realizing that I am singing LOL!

    1. Rachee says:

I ALWAYS get funny looks. I forget I’m not walking down a runway!

  4. Natasha Mairs says:

don' know if my last post went through, the comment box is acting up

  5. I like listening to dance music something with a beat

  6. Cyndie Norell says:

My songs for motivation is Happy by Pharrell ! This gets me moving!!

  7. I love your song choices!! I workout every day, but I pretty much only take classes, so my music is chosen for me.

  8. I wish I didnt live in the sticks and wish we had a gym close by.

  9. Amber Nelson says:

I need to get serious back in the gym.

  10. I absolutely hate gyms and weights, I have to force myself to do weights. I am only able to convince myself to do them because they improve my running – running I could do every day. Spring definitely does get a few more people moving to the gym – get in there and do what you need to do. You will love the results if you stick with it.

  11. Melanie says:

Hmm not sure i have songs for letting go. I listen to so much so often . I have heard the frozen song a lot lately !

  12. Tiffany says:

Good for you! OWN IT! 🙂 Good job for getting back to the gym, too! I need to start going.

  13. Lawna says:

I just started going to the gym again. I need to upload some songs onto my new mp3 player to bring with me next time.

  14. Tatiana Diaz says:

Great selections! I really need to get my butt into gear and start working out again but the office chair is too tempting to resist. It calls on me "come sit here for hours on the internet" Its horrible I know and with all the college work I also have to do from my office chair I rarely see the sun. Right now I am loving Happy by Pharell as a great get moving song. It just makes you want to stand up and dance.

  15. Ave says:

Great songs! Good luck with gym! I really like Madonna – Rainbow High and the Frozen song too!

  16. Nikki says:

I listen to a lot of punk music. Dropkick Murphys are my go-to band for just about everything.

  17. becca says:

I go walking everyday and my playlist is mainly music by Adam Lambert and Duran Duran with a little Boy George thrown in. However I love the Disney song.

  18. I totally agree with the Frozen song! It gives me motivation and confidence. Your song choices are great!

  19. The only song I know here is the Frozen Song – it’s such a wonderful music!

  20. Amanda Love says:

Congrats on making it back to the gym. I hate going and actually have no songs that I work out too. I do have a playlist but I listen to lots of different stuff.

Your turn! Tell it to Rah-shay!
