Book Review: Happy Hormones, Slim Belly #hhsb

Confession: whenever I would hear studies or read articles about women over 40 having slower metabolisms, I would think that I would be somehow immune from this phenomenon. This winter I have found myself reaching for sugary snacks and will admit that my waistline has paid  the price. I got a chance to review Jorge Cruise’s Happy Hormones, Slim Belly and in the book found a plan that seems doable for fueling my body better. Jorge’s plan promises to help women over 40 lose 7 lbs. the first week, and then 2 lbs. weekly— guaranteed.

Happy Hormones, Slim Belly promotes Carb Cycling, two days of a “Slim Belly” diet followed by five days of a “Happy Belly” diet. During the Slim Belly days of the diet, you strictly limit your Sugar Calories (or Total Carbohydrates multiplied by 4) to 100. You should avoid grains and starches on these days, and use the Freebies list found in the book for most meals. On the Happy Belly Days you can have up to 500 Sugar Calories a day. These five days are said to reset your hormones.

The beginning of the book explains the plan in great detail without a lot of jargon. Jorge breaks down why women crave carbs and offers advice without judgement. There are success stories but there are no pictures to accompany them. This is a complaint; I love seeing the progress people have made.

For the meal plans Jorge offers plenty of options. He provides resources for purchasing pre-made items but provides recipes for creating them from scratch. Jorge even provides four weeks of menu suggestions with a shopping list. Most of the shopping list items can be found in your regular grocery store. The weeks are accompanied by encouraging words and tips to help keep you motivated.

The book also includes a bibliography with resources to back up Jorge’s claims. There is a also a question and answer portion to this book with information about special dietary needs and using the plan with your family.

The Happy Hormones, Slim Belly diet book can be found on Amazon using my affiliate link. The plan doesn’t seem invasive or totally life altering. It promises a slimmer, happier belly through delicious food and a balance to hormones. This seems like a good way to jump start the loss of winter weight gain and feel good doing it.

Tell me…would you be willing to give this diet a try?

  1. Love that it comes with menu plans.

  2. This sounds like it might even work for me–I crave carbs and have to avoid them for the most part being diabetic-I will check to see if he has suggestions for diabetics before purchasing.
