yaRRnthings: On the Hooks and Needles

Say it Rah-shay, yaRRns By Oct 30, 2013 No Comments

It’s another WIP Wednesday! What project(s) are on the hooks, needles or just tangled up?

I have fallen hard for knitting and have been whipping things up like crazy. My new favorite pattern is the Drop Stitch Cowl from SpiderWomanKnits. To create this cowl I’ve used Lion Brand Thick and Quick, Lion Brand’s Hometown USA (It was on sale at Walmart and I decided to give it a play), Bernat’s Chunky and Big Berella Bulky, also by Bernat.

I like using super bulky yarn. The pieces work up quickly and are so warm and cozy. My only issue with the wools  I have been using: they tend to pill and get really fuzzy within a few washes. I have been encouraging people who receive these items to hand wash but I have not always followed my own advice!

Also on the needles, a drop stitch scarf I was playing around with. I was practicing “knit” stitich and drop stiches and actually thought about frogging this piece but as I’ve worked it I’ve realized that I don’t want to frog this piece or start over so here I am, near the end of my skein without enough to make a decent scarf. I think I can do a scarflet (yes, I made that up!) but this could totally work as a mini neck warmer.

While shopping today for needles, I discovered this beautiful new yarn from Patons. This Metallic yarn just shimmered and called to me and I scooped up a few skeins. I’m thinking scarf or wrap. The display touting the yarn was a crocheted shell scarf and I think I can recreate one. Stay tuned!
