I was invited to screen a sneak preview of the Starz original series, Outlander. All opinions are my own.

On Wednesday I was invited to check out a preview for the Starz original series Outlander. I have never watched the show, wanting to read the books first, but had a general idea of  the plot. The plot centers around Claire Randall. While on her second honeymoon in the British Isles, Claire touches a boulder that hurls her back in time to the forbidden Castle Leoch with the MacKenzie clan. Not understanding the forces that brought her there, she becomes ensnared in life-threatening situations with a Scots warrior named James (Jamie) Fraser.

The event was held at the Ritz 5 in Philly and the pre-show events were fun.

There were giveaways!

I got a chance to meet some “Outlanders!”

There was a bagpipe player who lent music to the festivities. The fans of the show were fabulous, encouraging me to catch up with the show. The books follow closely to the show and that I would equally enjoy both.

Edited: The second half of season one opens with Jamie on the hunt for Claire. She had been kidnapped by Captain Black Jack Randall and is about to be raped. Jamie and his clansman rescue her and the rest of the episode is the fall out between Jamie and Claire, the return to his uncle’s castle and the reaction to the wedding and talk of treason!

The episode did not feel like a catch up episode but more  like continuing the action. Even though I don’t know all of the players I found myself eager to dive into more about the politics and scheming between Jamie’s uncles Dougal and Colum MacKenzie. There is some history thrown in and family dynamics that are interesting.

The Jamie and Claire relationship is interesting. Jamie demands an apology from Claire because she disobeyed him and blames her for being kidnapped. It is fascinating watching a woman from the 20th century up against the mindsets and thoughts from the the 18th century.

I plan to binge watch Outlanders to get up to speed for the series when it returns to Starz on Saturday, April 4, at 9 p.m. EDT.

Tell me, who are your favorites? I love Claire and find myself wanting to be a badass clanswoman.
