Last week I was able to attend the annual Publisher’s Book Buzz at the Free Library of Philadelphia. The “book buzz,” is what it sounds like: a great way to hear about book titles that these major publishers think will be best sellers or otherwise titles that libraries will want to know about and order ahead of time. Included in the day was lunch and time to chat with friends from other libraries and a bag of advance reader copies (ARCs) and already published titles.
I tweeted as much as I could throughout the morning and below is a link to tweets from myself and all who attended and tweeted during the event.
Honestly? I want ALL the books but there were a few that really struck me.
2 a.m. at The Cat’s Pajamas by Marie-Helene Bertino (Pub date: 8/14)
This is a book from a local author about a jazz singer over the course of one Christmas Eve’s Eve.
I am a sucker for a book set in Philadelphia and love a character who refuses to do what “she’s told.”

The Black Hour by Lori Rader-Day (Pub date: 7/14)
For Chicago sociology professor Amelia Emmet, violence was a research topic–until a student she’d never met shot her.
What a fantastic tease! Trying to make sense of senseless violence? Trying to answer the question, “Why me?”

I really don’t *need* another book for knitting but this one is too cute! Even the baboon is adorable!

The Art of Secrets by James Klise (Pub Date: 4/14)
I actually got an ARC of this and read it over the weekend. What a book! It’s well paced, great characters and an ending that, while not a complete surprise still had me thinking about it a few days later. This is good for mystery lovers, art aficionados and anyone who wonders why people do the things they do.

Fat Boy vs the Cheerleaders by Geoff Herbach (pub date: 5/6/14)
Y’all know how I love me a book about an underdog who happens to have more of them to love! This one tackles bullying, fighting for what’s right and standing your ground.

This is just a short list of new and upcoming titles but stay tuned for more! I was fortunate enough to pick up several ARCs and will be sharing reviews on the blog. Tell me, what are you buzzing about? Share in the comments or let me know what book you would want to check out.
Happy reading!

I’m like you, it’s hard to pick, but there really are some that stand out brighter than others. thanks for sharing!
That knitting book looks fantastic! My mother-in-law knits the cutest stuffed toys for my kids, I should get it for her!
Looks like a great list. I really want to get back into reading for myself this year.
