What are your favorite go to cookbooks? Here are a few books I’ve been digging!
The Weekday Vegetarians by Jenny Rosenstrach
My family has been dabbling with following a vegan/mostly meatless diet and there are days when the struggle to find something to eat is tough. Enter Jenny Rosenstrach, author of the blog Dinner: A Love Story. I love when a recipe calls for ingredients that I actually have at home. I’m not a fan of buying some special item that will sit in the back of the cabinet until it’s expired. Jenny’s recipes easy to follow, they seem possible and there is something for everyone.
The Quick Fix Kitchen by Tia Mowry
I won’t lie. I borrowed this book from the library because Tia, like me, is a twin and twiiiiinsss! Twin love aside, this is a really good book. This is not a book for vegans/vegetarians but I said we’re “mostly meatless” (winky eye emoji).
I’m a sucker for a book with tips and Tia offers shopping lists, seasonal food guides and tips for organizing your kitchen. The recipes are not overly complicated and involved and they are simple enough for prepping during the weekdays after work.
Kitchen Without Borders by The Eat Offbeat Chefs
The classes I took at the Free Library introduced me to recipes from other cultures and this book allows me to experiment in the comfort of my own kitchen. The recipes are accessible and stories from the chefs are inspiring and I feel like I learn something new each time I flip through the book.
Cooking with Friends: Recipes for Modern Entertaining by Geoff Bartakovics and Todd Coleman
Full disclosure: the recipes in this book are a bit more complicated by I am a sucker for a book with tips and tricks for entertaining. (I’ve not given up on the idea of dinner parties, at least with family and close friends).
No Recipe? No Problem by Phyllis Good
Sometimes I have a lot of ingredients and little motivation. With this book, I can take a familiar recipe and make a little twist… with guidance. Usually I just let the spirits tell me where to go but the spirits have been doing me dirty and it’s nice to have a map.
Ever since I pared down my cookbook collection, I’ve been intentional about using the books I have and borrowing books from the library to try before I buy. It’s been a good practice. I’ve discovered new meals and the pressure to cook all of the things isn’t there.
Tell me…what are your favorite cookbooks?
