It’s the end of week four of summer reading and it’s been a special kind of busy. I am woman enough to admit that I am totally overwhelmed and I want to complain but the busy comes from a good thing. My library has become a site for Summer Meals and this means we have seen an increase in the amount of people we see each day from about 300-400 per day to about 600-700.
The summer meals program has me torn. I am so excited to be able to fill a need. Besides being able to help hungry children, we have been able to provide an alternative to the junk food that is usually consumed by the library kids. The meals are very balanced and offer a variety of sources of vitamins and flavors. The kids seem to eat with gusto and are enjoying the food but lord is it noisy!
That aside, the Summer Meals program has been met with success. We’ve only been at it for a week but we have had to increase the amount of meals each day and the snack seems to help with that afternoon naughtiness that has been such a problem.
