Movie Monday: Just Keep Swimming!

The first movie that The Bee, The Dad and I all went to see together was Finding Nemo. For reasons that escape me now, The Bee and I would always steal away afternoons when I was not working and see a movie. I think I was just looking for a way to get out of the house, she was young enough to still sleep during movies and I could do something that was still kind of normal. When Nemo came out The Dad mentioned that he really wanted to see the movie. It wasn’t a princess and it featured a father and son so we all went. Despite this association with the movie, Nemo has been one of my favorite. The movie is gorgeous; I always feel as if I should be holding my breath as the fish swim away in the deep blue. Visually stunning and breathtakingly beautiful, Finding Nemo will be popping off the screen when it is released in 3D in the fall (September 14th!).

The cast of characters making the voices are phenomenal. Among them are my favorite Aussie, Geoffrey Rush, as Nigel the seagull. There is Willem Defoe as Gill, the fish who runs the tank where Nemo is placed as he awaits being gifted to a little girl who literally loves her pets to death. Albert Brooks as Marlon, Nemo’s over protective father and then there’s Ellen. Ellen DeGeneners plays Dory, a little blue fish who just can’t remember. Dory holds a special place in my heart; when the movie came out my grandmother had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dory made the diagnosis a bit easier to deal with.

My favorite character has got to be Crush, the surfer dude turtle voiced by Andrew Stanton.

Crush: Saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all like “whoa”, and we were like “whoa”, and you were like “whoa…” Marlin: What are you talking about? Crush: You, Mini-Man, takin’ on the jellies. You’ve got serious thrill issues, dude. Awesome

Enjoy the trailer and hope you get a chance to “just keep swimming…”
