Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts brings double the fun with back to back Saturday family-friendly fare that will get youngsters cognitive skills roaring. Parents, grandparents and adults young at heart are invited to bring their young ones to the monthly installment of PNC Grow Up Great and the annual FREE Organ Day.
- On May 31, PNC Grow Up Great New York artist Louie Miranda visits Philadelphia to perform interactive bilingual musical presentation that will get youngsters, primarily ages zero to four years-old, enjoying a sing along dance fest (Commonwealth Plaza).
- On June 7, family fun gets some serious star power when “Fred” takes the stage – the annual Fred J. Cooper Memorial FREE Organ Day performance kicks off with a pairing of the King of Instruments and a majestic puppet presentation of SergeiProkofiev’s Peter and the Wolf by Puppet Art Theater Company (Verizon Hall).

Singer, songwriter, recording artist Louie Miranda performs on guitar with his band from NYC a highly interactive bilingual presentation that will have the entire family up singing and dancing along. Performance will include works from family friendly Louie Fiesta Latin CD release (2006). Louie Fiesta Latin is an interactive song cycle of storytelling featuring The Counting Song, Guantanamera, a socially conscious song promoting eco-friendly peace on earth, Bubbles (prepare to have your little one pull out their magic bubble wands for this one!), and Maria, a song of a girl befriending a lamb who wanted to learn at school, to name a few. Louie Miranda’s performance will fill your little one with joy and wonder in learning through the arts.
The Kimmel Center is the recipient of partnership funding through the nationally recognized PNC “Grow Up Great” program, a $350 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age five for success in school and life. Grow Up Great programs are held monthly in Commonwealth Plaza are curated with the help of the Temple University Music Preparatory Division.

Join us for a day of FREE family fun at our 4th Annual Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ Day. A beautiful addition to the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall, the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ ranks as the largest mechanical action concert hall organ in the United States! Join us and experience the ‘King of Instruments’ with a day of music, recitals, demonstrations and collaborations, family activities, and even a few silent films.
Especially for little organ lovers: Organ Day kicks off at 11am with a free program designed just for little ones! Join Puppet Art Theater Company and the mighty force of the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ for an interactive presentation of Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
