Internationally renowned jazz musician Lawrence Jones, a native Philadelphian now living abroad in the UK, will be coming back home and performing in concert, “An Afternoon of Jazz,” at New Life United Methodist Church – 2600 Bond Avenue – in Drexel Hill. Beginning at 3:30pm, the concert features Jones as well as local jazz musicians. Admission for “An Afternoon of Jazz” is $15. An Afternoon of Jazz | Lawrence Jones

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, flutist and saxophonist Lawrence Jones has surprised international audiences with his soulful vocal renditions of jazz standards.

 

Lawrence Jones travels around the world, integrating elements of his diverse experiences into all genre of instrumental music. He developed an early interest in the study of Jazz, which has become his primary focus.  He founded the Brighton Jazz All Stars (BJAS), a jazz cooperative providing concerts, workshops, and audience exposure to some of the world’s best musicians. For more than 20 years, he has performed weekly as the premiere musician, at Brighton’s most popular pub, “The Lion and Lobster.”

In 2003, Lawrence was featured in an autobiographical film, “Compared to What.” The popular video was well received at the Brighton Beach Fringe Arts Festival, and ran for several years online.

 

Lawrence has performed with some of the world’s best-known jazz musicians, including the late Grover Washington Jr., and a number of noted Philadelphia-area favorites.

Lawrence has released an expanding personal CD library consisting of “Philly Feel” (2001), “Live at the Lion and Lobster” (2003), “Destiny” (Brighton Jazz Allstars 2004), “It’s Good To Be Back Home” (2004),  “Prelude”(2009),  “All Too Soon” (2010), and “The Dancing Man” (2014). Lawrence Jones and the Brighton All Stars have released a number of CDs, which are distributed and sold exclusively in the UK.

He currently resides in Brighton, England with his wife Leslie and daughter, Ella.
