How to lose hours

Say it Rah-shay By Mar 01, 2009 7 Comments

As a child of the 80’s, my Mario experience was in the form of Donkey Kong, Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros. On Atari (I am indeed that old) we would play Donkey Kong for hours, hands cramping from that joystick. When we got a Nintendo, my sister would play for hours, turning Mario into a squirrel, rescuing Peach and defeating Bowser (I was a Tetris freak myself and never caught the fever). Now that I have a kid, I am once again acquainted with Mario in the form of Mario Kart Wii.

Both of these can be borrowed from your library!
Try before you buy!

Mario Kart features the characters from various Mario games racing. Twelve characters at a time can race various courses such as Maple Treeway (The Bee’s favorite), Mario’s Circuit Three (Dill’s favorite), Mushroom Gorge (my favorite) and Rainbow Road (which I think is the hardest!)

Last summer The Bee, Dill, friends of the kids and my brother in law would play Mario Kart on the DS or hours. Again I never got in on the action; much like a real automobile, I had trouble with the carts from the game crashing into things.

They could have played all night

I used to think that this was such a dumb game! Characters just…racing? What was the point? Now, while I still don’t know the point, I can say that I am hooked. Nothing gets done when Mario Kart Wii is on. With wi-fi we can play racers from across the world, people across the US and friends (so far no takers but…)

We are even going to do a tournament at work (bring your A game and extra controllers as four people can play at once!)

This game is not as innocent as it seems; I had to restrict play a few weeks ago as The Bee engaged in a monster mood swing when she failed to get a double star rating and Dill threw a fit when he was beat by The Bee during a race. I have been known to get caught up in the fever and utter a swear word or two when I go tumbling off a building. Also, this game should come with a warning! It is so addiciting. I always say one race, one race but find that I get sucked into race after race after race!

So into the game that she didn’t take coat off

True story!

Sigh!

Waiting for my turn (and ready to bogart)

This is why we won’t have a Wii or any other gaming system – they’re too addictive. LOL Although that does look like a lot of fun…
