Of all the dishes I have eaten and shared, one I have been remiss in sharing is the big old plate of “crow” that I must add to the list. You see, a while back The Bee and I were watching an awards show hosted by a woman called Chrissy Teigen. Chrissy was telling some jokes that had me I was like, “WHO is this lady?” and caused me to make this face whole watching the show.
The Bee assured me that Chrissy Teigen was OK but I wasn’t convinced. Chrissy continued to be (because I am so sure she could give two clucks about the likes of me) and then a few weeks ago I found that Chrissy has a (new to me) cookbook called Cravings, and oh!mah!gah! is this one that I am totally adding to my collection!
Now, I was all like, “a model…who cooks…and eats real food? Pshaw!” But dig it, Chrissy has recipes that will appeal to a bunch of your taste buds. The recipes are possible, made with ingredients that are things I have heard of and actually have in the cabinet!
The book is full of charming stories that provide a glimpse into Chrissy’s life. She does address the idea that she, a model, makes food that isn’t quite “modely”. These are food that she loves and shares with the people she loves and danger, treat yo’self!
This book does inspire cravings. There are recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, entertaining, an homage to her Thai mom, and (my favorite), “Sh*t on Toast” because there are times when cooking that it gets a little funky in the kitchen. We decided to give Chrissy’s Mac and Cheese with Cheesy Garlic Bread Crumbs a try and this was a crowd pleaser!
Oh yum! This was an easy recipe to recreate. I am not a “bread crumbs on macaroni” type of person but this cheesy garlic topping added a powerful addition to the flavor.
I finally got to use the Ramekins from the food conference I attended last year and oh…yum!
The recipes in this book just bring to mind an easy evening with family and my family enjoyed our mac and cheese (dairy free for The Bee!) out in our backyard around our new fire pit.
