This Is Just To Say
by William Carlos Williams
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
I forgot about this one!
After listening to a rebroadcast This American Life, I remembered that I really liked listening to Ira Glass and Sean Cole discussing this poem. Sean gets so incensed as he talks about the poem and his interpretation of what it means. Following Sean’s rant, contributors to TAL parody the poem so I thought i would go at it also.
Ahem (clearing throat)
Mi, mi, mi, mi!
You, you, you, you!
I, I, I, I, I!
This is just to say
I have deleted
the e-mail
that you have
sent me
and which you were
waiting for a response
Forgive me,
I thought it was spam
and you called me anyway
so shut it.
Can you make one?
Here a few web sites that also parody this poem
Scribal Terror
Enigmatic Meanderings
Just saying,
-r
This is just to say
That I did smoke
In the house.
While I was at the computer,
reading a blog.
I had just made some coffee and couldn’t find my shoes.
