The Goodwill #DonateStuffCreateJobs

When my sister told me that a new Goodwill was opening in Upper Darby I was all about getting a deal on clothes. Shopping is not my thing; I usually avoid it any way I can however I can pull it together when shopping means a bargain can be had. When the new location opened up Buffy and I headed over and we grabbed a few things. I returned a couple more times and picked up a few more items, excited about the things that I had scored.

It was during the official opening of the store that I learned that the Goodwill is so much more than bargain prices. The Goodwill provides job training programs, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face other challenges to finding employment. In fact, Goodwill is the leading nonprofit provider of job training programs and career services in the United States and Canada.

At the Goodwill location in Upper Darby there is a job placement center and according to the Goodwill website Every 33 seconds of each business day, someone earns a job with Goodwill’s help. How great is that? My library is bustling with people who are looking for jobs, needing help with resumes and filling out applications. The new service center will be a fantastic resource for people who need more help than what we are able to provide. While my library offers job assistant programs, it’s only on a weekly basis and only a few weeks for each session.

The services at the Goodwill are made possible with YOUR donations. Check out the PSA below and then consider donating your old items. Clean out those closets, repurpose those old items and help someone get a job!

Enjoy your bargains and thanks for your donation.
