Backstory

Kegeling is a “thing” now but as a lass the idea of bladder health was nothing to concern me. I had no desire to Kegel, I just wanted to get through the entirety of The Jane Fonda Prime Time Workout. Mom, Buffy and I would do that tape (yes tape as in VCR) a couple of times a week and then we would get to a part to sit on the floor, spread our legs in a “V” and squeeze as Jane commanded. My mom would go right through this part but my sister and I would site there and we squeezed and squeezed and squeezed…something. My mom eventually paused the tape and explained that the exercise was squeezing the muscle used when going to the bathroom. My sister and I gagged and pretended to be scandalized and then we continued on with the workout. Years later, pregnant with The Bee, I was fanatic about performing Kegel exercises. I had heard awful horror stories about birth and tearing and wanted to ensure that nothing like that was going to happen to me.

Now that having more children is not something I think about, I often forget to do Kegel exercises. When I remember I’ll give a few squeezes and vow to keep them up until I forget again. When my mom got her kidney in July, she shared that Kegeling was recommended for her and as she adjusted to a new kidney would (over)share about her routine. This month I will be forty and I want to take better care of myself. I was asked to review Cystex® Cranberry Urinary Health and to share the video below to spread the word that good bladder health can be assisted with Kegels and Cystex® Cranberry Urinary Health.

Cystex® Cranberry Urinary Health

The ingredients found in Cystex are a blend which contains D-Mannose, inulin, bromeliad, and vitamin C, a combination designed to boost bladder health.

Cystex Liquid Cranberry Complex contains:

Natural cranberry concentrate: disables the cell structure of E. coli by inhibiting their ability to adhere to the wall of the urinary tract
D-Mannose (active ingredient from cranberries): to increase bacterial anti-adherence effect. E. coli bacteria adhere to the D-Mannose forming a compound that is expelled with urine
Bromelain (from pineapple): a natural anti-inflammatory that may increase antibiotic effectiveness plus digests protein
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): to help maintain adequate urine acidity, which helps create a less tolerable environment for E. coli bacteria
FOS (inulin): a prebiotic that stimulates the growth of bifidobacteria in the colon and reduces the number of E. coli – feeds healthy bacteria

According to the website,  It is a sugar-, dairy-, and gluten-free daily supplement that tastes great and boosts urinary tract health. The unique Proantinox® cranberry formula can end the cycle of infection for those who are unfortunately prone to recurrent urinary tract infections, and can be found nationwide at drug chains and mass market retailers, including Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid and Duane Reade for a suggested retail price of $9.95 (7.6 fl oz).

One teaspoon a day of Cystex® Cranberry Urinary Health is all that is needed. The product has a tart taste but is not unpleasant. I used it for a week and still had half a bottle left to use. It would be dishonest to say that I had some type of bladder miracle happen but I can honestly say that Cystex along with Kegeling makes me feel like I am more efficient when I use the facilities.

Kegels

Kegel exercises can be done while you’re doing just about anything else and no one knows you’re doing them– so there’s no excuse. Kegeling can be done by squeezing and holding your pelvic floor muscles up and in. Most healthcare professionals suggest Kegeling regularly for ten seconds three times a day, to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in a pre-emptive defense of many bladder issues.

Still not convinced you should Kegel? Watch and share the fun new Cystex “I’m Kegeling! Are You?” music video to see just how easy it is. Find a how-to-Kegel guide and more information at .
