Those Gallaghers…oh my word!
Netflix is streaming the first five seasons of the Showtime series Shameless and I cannot stop watching!
Series description:
Meet the fabulously dysfunctional Gallagher family. Dad’s a drunk, Mom split long ago, eldest daughter Fiona tries to hold the family together. Eldest son Philip (Lip) trades his physics tutoring skills for sexual favors from neighborhood girls. Middle son Ian is gay. Youngest daughter Debbie is stealing money from her UNICEF collection. Ten-year-old Carl is a budding sociopath and an arsonist, and toddler Liam is – well, he might actually be black, but nobody has a clue how.
And this was just the FIRST season! This family is messy, a hot mess and, because it’s set in Chicago, full of awesome yarnthings!
I managed to screen shot a few of the lovely and luscious items I plan to add to my WIP pile and found a few on Ravelry.
Let’s start with Lip’s college girlfriend, Amanda. I think she is wearing some type of Fair Isle beret and thought Gretchen’s Easy Tam from Lion’s Brand was just the thing.
Debbie’s scarf seems to be a simple stockinette stitch. I think I love the stripping and the hints of glitter. This scarf looks like it was made with large needles (hello size 15s!) but was probably made on a machine. The closest pattern I could find was Sarah E. White’s “Ridged Stockinette. ”
To be honest, I am not sure what is going on with Debbie’s hat. I love the color combination and feel like it’s a seed stitch of some type. I could be mistaken because I really don’t know as much about knitting stitches and I wish I did (sigh!)
Fiona’s slouch is a paid pattern from Stacey Simpson Duke. You can find the link to the Shameless Slouch here.
This chevron stitch blanket was also featured on Shameless and I’m loving it. It looks like a way to start hooking again and like a stash buster. Aside…can we talk about Vee’s hair? Her locs are gorgeous! Back to the blanket. Andrea Baker has a pattern that rocks and you can find it on her blog.
This log cabin blanket found on the Gallagher’s sofa is pretty cool. I love the color combinations and that there seems to be granny squares. I found a link to several patterns for log cabin blankets but love the instructions from Knitting-and.com . (Don’t tell The Librarian that I am casting on for this. His albatross is STILL waiting for me to complete it but I just am not feeling it anymore!).
I’m all caught up with Shameless (binge watching for the win!) and have some yarns and patterns planned. It’s cooler in Philly than it has been in weeks and the perfect time to start some new things.
What’s on your hooks and needles?
