r’s note: Thank you to A.C. Moore for providing a gift card and craft ideas. All original thoughts are mine.
I’m not feeling the Christmas spirit; too much to do and the feeling that there is not enough time to do it so of course I ambitiously joined a blog hop for 12 days of Christmas ideas and activities!
Today we are sharing homemade ornaments.
Originally I wanted to knit or crochet an ornament, something like this little amigurami I made a few months ago but then I spied this peppermint ornament at my daughter’s school and switched direction. A trip to A.C. Moore, repurposing some supplies around the house and I was able to recreate the ornament.
Supplies used:
- Glitter foam sheet (it is self-adhesive!)
- Foam circle
- pencil to draw the stripes
- scissors to cut
- hot glue gun (originally I thought I would need this for the foam)
- Not pictured:
ruler to measure (as much as I’d like to think I can eyeball things, I cannot)
beads (to hang the ornament on the tree)
extra pill bottle to make a circle
I started by gathering all material. (I mention this because I am usually running around looking for supplies and making a mess!)
Measure your foam piece. Mine was 6 inches and after measuring the circle in the middle I made the “stripes” about two inches long.
I used the back of the foam to roughly draw the “stripes” and after getting shapes tat I like, I cut them out and adhered the shapes to the foam.
Using the hot glue gun, I attached the beads and, after letting the glue cool, had created a cool ornament!
The whole craft took about 20 minutes to create.
Reflections
When I make this again, I will get some glitter to make the foam pop. I realized that the foam is a bit flat and while I am not a fan of glitter, I am a fan of making something simple look more elegant.
I used a low heat hot glue and my beads stayed put. Bonus: I did NOT burn myself!
The foam is a bit bigger than what I would usually ike for my tree so for future “peppermints” I will look for small discs.
This craft was fun to complete and would make a wonderful project for a Crafternoon!
So tell me…what are you crafting?

This is so cute. I love the idea of a peppermint candy on the tree.
