To get ready for Mardi Gras, my library held a mask making drop in program with materials provided by Oriental Trading. Here is a review and some pictures from the day.

The masks with and without the arms

The masks with and without the arms

In addition to the Color Your Own Mardi Gras Glasses and Self Adhesive jewels provided by Oriental Trading, the library provided crayons, markers, ribbons and strwas for children to create their own unique masks.

In attendance were children as young as seven and as old as fifteen. We used crayons and markers to color the masks and then a variety of jewels, feathers and ribbons to make a unique mask for ourselves.

The children and myself enjoyed decorating the masks. It was fun to create a unique look. These masks fit the older children better. they were a bit large for the younger children but improvisations were made and the children used scissors to cut the arms off and attached straws wrapped with colorful ribbons to the side to create a handle.

Below is a gallery of images from the event showcasing the materials we used as well as the creativity of the children.
