Twisted MixTape Tuesday: Guilty Pleasures

Say it Rah-shay By Feb 24, 2014 12 Comments

This week for our Twisted MixTape I am sharing the songs that are so bad but oh so good. I keep telling myself that as I get older I don’t care what people think but I don’t want to be “that mom”

It’s a delicate balance; I am still trying to figure out the duality of being mom, girl friend, daughter, library chick and still be me.

Gah!

Spice Girls – Wannabe

Yup. I still feel like a big ole wannabe. Wannabe cool, wannabe in, wannabe something that doesn’t always jive with traditional or sane conventions.

I’ll tell you want I want, what I really, really want…a nap and curls like Scary Spice.

Britney Spears – Toxic

My teen would probably rather me not share my love of this song but…let her eat cake.
Seriously, Ms Spears is the bomb and I am unapologetic about my need to jam to this song.

Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby

Don’t play. You know when someone says, “Stop” you reply, silently or with gusto, “Collaborate and listen!”

Oh wait. That’s me

LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem

Admittedly I like this song because I like applying the line, “Everyday I’m shuffling” to different parts of my life. Such as when I am headed from job one to job two with a stop off at home to be greeted by the sighand huffiness of a teenager who is, like, uh, I like to say, “Everyday I’m hustling.”
Stop groaning. We both knew what this was.

Boston – More Than a Feeling

I am not sure if the song or my air drumming makes this a guilty pleasure. Let’s take a little from column A and a little from column B. But this song is my song I am singing when you drive by me and I am rockin.’

BONUS!

One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful

We did karaoke at the library and much to the ire of my child, the tweens who are regulars in the library and even myself (a little) I knew all of the words to What Makes You Beautiful. I don’t know Harry Styles from Prince Harry but I know (ooh ooh) that’s what makes you beautiful!

Well we clearly both rock! And Toxic almost made it on my list, but actually it's the boy who thinks that song is "catchy" his words….
No need to feel guilty about Boston! Great Mix!

  2. I love me some Toxic. I don’t care what anyone thinks! Love hearing the Spice Girls too. I guess I’m super cheesy!

  3. Ok so you don’t get to (well I mean you can, because who am I?) feel guilty about Boston. However, I’ll concur to Vanilla Ice because I LOVE that song. And am ashamed that I do.

  4. Ask me how many times I watched that Spice Girls video, or listened to that song. Or better not, don’t ask, just trust me that it was quite a few (I mean thousands of) times. Yeah, guilty pleasure, LOL

  5. Sarah Almond says:

I was nodding along with this post-yes, Yes YES YES YESSSS! Then No. Sorry One Direction, you are not even on my radar. Rachee I am ashamed of myself for not coming over to visit you sooner because you are waaaaaay cool in my eyes. I love your mix! We should never be ashamed of anything we listen to, right? 😉

  6. Now I’m paranoid wondering, “What’s wrong with Boston?!”

  7. I love this list, especially the Ice Ice baby number. Sharing!

  8. This is a good list! My first experience with LMFAO was in 2009 when they opened for The Black Eyed Peas. I attended one of their (BEP) last concerts for my birthday. The rest of the songs on your list are great too, and i love the story behind Macklemore and Ryan.

  9. Dana says:

I happen to like One Direction, which is a good thing because I’m going to my second concert this summer. And Boston – listening to it now as I type. Great list!

  10. I read down the list checking off yeses as I went. And then you lost me at One Direction. That one was even too guilty for me!

  11. Sandy Ramsey says:

Never, ever, ever feel guilty for Boston! They are amazing! I wonder how many closet One Direction fans we will have today? I love the whole list….except LMFAO. For some reason, I have never been able to get into them.

  12. Marcy says:

Ha ha, fun list. I think “Party Rock Anthem” is so much fun. “More Than a Feeling” was the height of romance when I was in high school. (I used to think he was saying he saw her derriere walking away, though.)

Your turn! Tell it to Rah-shay!
