Day Two: Skill + 1UP

Say it Rah-shay By Mar 30, 2011 No Comments

r’s note….I missed Day One. I may still try to catch up but wanted to share this. Please to enjoy!

In which I toot my own horn…beep, beep!

Look back over your last year of projects and compare where you are in terms of skill and knowledge of your craft to this time last year. Have you learned any new skills or forms of knitting/crochet (can you crochet cable stitches now where you didn’t even know such things existed last year? Have you recently put a foot in the tiled world of entrelac? Had you even picked up a pair of needles or crochet hook this time last year?

I want to toot my own horn but it feels so…braggy. I am going to make another Top Ten, well in this case a lucky seven of how my skills have come so far.

7. I am becoming pattern literate
-I am reading patterns and learning how to decipher the language of the yarn crafter. It’s nice to actually read the pattern and be able to visualize what I am making instead of sorta hoping that the think I make will end up looking like what it should.

6. The amount of UFOs have decreased.
-This is not to say that I still have unfinished projects (HP scarf, fingerless gloves, hats for several people) but I find that I am able to finish more projects with satisfaction.

5. I am comfortable sharing my talents.
-Recently I started a craft time for the children at my library and I have also had a few classes with The Bee’s Girl Scout Troop. Not everyone has become fibre artists but they are able to understand what I am taking about, make chains and there were minimal tears.

4. I am bicraftual!
-I learned to knit! I have been secretly coveting the two needle process but just couldn’t get it together. After several attempts I finally was able to make a knit stitch and a purl stitch. I’m still just making boxy items but my technique is decent and I am having a good time.

I knit and purl!

3. My stash is not totally out of control.
-I lie; I still have twelve ‘G’ hooks but cha know…
Seriously, I haven’t been hoarding yarn, books or patterns. I have been using it or sharing it forward.

2. I am making gauge swatches.
-Truthfully this was by accident. I was trying to make something and it was not coming out right. Trial and error, some whining and cussing and gauge switches were being made.

1. I have gotten out of my comfort zone
-This year in addition to the eleventy billion scarves that I usually make I made a sock monkey hat for The Bee and The Jayne for Effin’ Guy

Do you have skills?
