See above…that’s a smile that never had braces but boy oh boy did I covet the bright shiny grins that some of my friends sported throughout high school. During the day I would stare at those mouths, agreeing that it was unfair that they had to wear those awful braces. However, alone, at home and with the door shut and the curtains drawn, I would often take those jelly bracelets and bend them in my mouth, pretending that I was one of those lucky ones.

This is what I coveted.
Brace Face

As an adult I grew to love the compliment that would come from people who would see my smile and remark on how straight my teeth were. I grin and brush off the compliment thinking that I *am* lucky to have such a great smile. Great smiles seem to skip a generation because during the last check-up I learned that my teen would need braces.
