Jane Austen has six books which have been published and adored, sold to many a person who treasure and behold her words.

But not me.

I am not a fan of Jane Austen. (Yes, I may have to turn in my library chick card for that one.) Well, I do love Clueless (which is loosely based on Emma) and I do love Gwenyth Platrow as Emma and I did enjoy watching Keira Knightly banter as Elizabeth Bennett but as for reading the exploits written by Ms. Austen…nah.

When I first heard about Jane Austen Cover to Cover: 200 Years of Classic Book Covers I could not imagine how a book about cover would be something I would be interested in but I find myself poring over the book, studying the unique covers and then comparing the covers to what I have read and (the little) I know of the books. Author Margaret C. Sullivan offers readers a glimpse at over 200 years of covers, information about how the culture and fashions of the times influenced the covers. There are tidbits about the publishing industry are fun juicy nuggets and this book makes me want to be in on the secret of what makes Jane so beloved.

Jane Austen Cover to Cover: 200 Years of Classic Book Covers shares offers such a great variety of Austen’s works that it was almost impossible for me NOT to want to check them out. Included are comic adaptions, re-imagined editions (Quirk’s own Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one) and versions for the youngest Austen lovers in your life. This is such a great resource and a delightful way to get lost and judge books by their covers.
