…Bellydance.
The first time I tried a bellydance class I thought I would be just moving my belly. I walked into class, tied a scarf around my waist and proceeded to work everything including my belly. I was so sore the next day, silently cursing the co-worker who shared this was how she had lost weight. After weeks of practice I borrowed a few tapes (yes video tapes) from my local library and Buffy, a toddler Pop and I would practice hip rolls, sways and more in an attempt to move.
There is something about hip circles and hip drops that make me feel loose, free, unrestrained. I am not ready to perform in public but in the privacy of my home I pop in some music, grab a coin scarf and go for it, ignoring the rolls that cover me and the ignoring the stiffness that I usually use an excuse to not do.
Netflix, Xfinity and even YouTube offer a variety of ways to practice without the benefit of a class.
Here is a video to show one of my favorite moves, the hip drop.
Take your time and enjoy!
I think you may have just inspired me to look for some belly dancing on Netflix! I think I’d want a coin scarf too.
