Or two shows, two networks, same concept.
Hey all, I realize that I haven’t posted in a while. This week has been borderline hellish, perhaps third rung as I prepared for an event at work, dealt with some major PITA co-workers- you know who you are!- tried to be a good mom, so-so daughter and nursed a major migraine. (Aside: I may have to visit the doc but I swear if she says some diagnosis that I don’t like I’m going to be madder than a mother-shut yo mouth!)
Anyhoodle, since I am a TV addict (Hello, my name is Rachée and I waste time watching TV) I find myself flipping through the channels instead of oh, cleaning, sleeping, crocheting. While I channel surfed I came across Bravo’s ANTM rip off version of: Make Me a Supermodel.
The concept is similar to ANTM: sorta amateur models compete to see who is “model enough.”
But there are differences that in each show.
ANTM:
13-14 girls compete to see who will “be on top”
Supermodel:
16 women and men (!) compete to see who will can be made into a supermodel.
ANTM:
Each week there is a challenge that involves a runway, walking lesson, posing lesson etc and one of the potential models wins a prise
Supermodel:
The models have a photo shoot and the winner of the shoot goes on a “go-see” (in which they strut their stuff for a potential client).
ANTM:
The girls seem to be left to learn through a group lesson and then a challenge. Occasionally Tyra shows up and gives the girls a piece of advice from her career that is helpful (how to wear hair pieces) to WTFish (do like this – Tyra squints eyes softly – instead of this -Tyra squints eyes and makes a face)
Supermodel:
Tyson Beckford (the hottie with a weird looking mouth, blech!) and some chick named Nicole are mentors to the models, advising and coaching them through photo shoots. In fairness, Mr. Jay does try to guide the girls but his help is a bitchy comment in the vein of a remark like, “These girls need to bring it” or “Tyra is looking for intensity.”
ANTM:
The girls only go see a go-see when there are like five of them left. There was one season that the girls went on go sees earlier on but they went in groups of four and had a time limit. But on
Supermodel:
Each week a contestant wins a go-see and gets to take a “friend”. It appears that the contestants on Supermodel can actually book a gig with their go-sees where as ANTM chicks can only maybe get booked.
ANTM:
The models seem to keep the cattiness factor on the down low. With the exception of the makeovers where inevitably one or two girls have a major freak out about the makeover.
Supermodel:
These chicks and dudes keep the bitchfest going all the time! They don’t even try and hide that they are upset about someone else winning or what they are feeling about another contestant.
ANTM:
The girls seem to have limited contact with Tyra
Supermodel:
The models have interaction with the mentors quite a bit. I like this; as brutal as the industry is it and that this is a contest for people who have limited experience, it seems a no-brainer to have someone who knows what the heck is going on guide you.
ANTM:
During elimination the judges send the girls away while they deliberate and decide who will be eliminated. The girls are then called back in and then one by one given copies of their photo when they know they are safe.
Supermodel:
At the elimination someone the models who performed the best as well as the ones who have performed the worst stay on the runway for extra evaluation. The judges leave and the models wait on the runway for their fate. One model is given immunity and the others are either told they did well or they are the worst of the bunch and one is sent packing.
Both shows still have models who are enviably thin and the models are made to wear ridiculous clothes for the photo shoots. Supermodel doesn’t try to put the models in harms way (but I just started watching so I could be writing an addendum).
Anyhoodle, since Bravo, We, Oxygen and the CW seem to think model reruns are a staple, check these shows out for yourself and let me know if you wanna be on top.
NOT being eliminated,
